Lost Letter

I write a letter in a rush of flame
and seal it in a glassy drifting grave
with trembling hands I whisper out your name
and let the restless ocean take its wave

to carry it beyond the open sea
a foaming tomb where lost illusions lie
my soul howls out like some wild beast in me
and breaks my heart while hope refuses die

But if somehow it reaches you one day
this letter inked in love’s eternal stain
you’ll find it where the silent harbors stay
washed up and lost beyond the reach of pain

the words of love will all have faded out
erased by time’s relentless, cruel design
the killer years that leave no room for doubt
yet still… this broken heart of mine is thine

to vows, to dreams, to tears I can’t erase
a castaway of longing and despair
a drifting ghost at infinity’s edge of space
still knowing miracles won’t find me there

no salvation waits for me in sight
while fighting monsters born of life and fear
at the edge of earth, beyond all light
because… you are not here
